Question Raleigh area?

we're thinking of taking a short vacay soon, Raleigh NC area. can anyone give me the lowdown? have x3 littles; age 4.5, 2.5 & 6ms. kid friendly museums? parks? activities? farmers market? things to skip?

skip Raleigh? head somewhere else? we dont want to drive more than 3hrs.

They have an awesome flea market at the fair grounds on the weekend. There is also a big fun park up there, I'll get you the link. Have you guys been to Imagination Station in Wilson yet?

http://www.frankiesfunpark.com/raleigh/ here it is. I haven't been there though. But my aunt took her kids and said it was nice.

Try this link :-) They have a list of stuff to do on there too. http://www.visitraleigh.com/visitors...s_to_do/family

I went to college in Raleigh

Definitely hit up the Farmer's Market - it's amazing during the summer months! TDF strawberries right now, I would bet! They are open a couple of weekday mornings in the summer I think and every weekend. Oh, and eat at the restaurant for breakfast, it's yummy and the portions are huge!

http://www.ncagr.gov/markets/facilit...rkets/raleigh/

Ok, so looks like they are open every morning now but my vote is for Saturday or Sunday morning - there are tons more venders there on the weekends. Parking may be a little busy but no worse than a mall

Obviously, since I was a college student, I didn't really pay much attention to kid-friendly type stuff so I did a quick google search for you.

Oh, and Pullen Park! It's right beside NC State's campus and I think it would be a real hit with kids! And it's maybe 2 miles from the Farmer's Market?

Pullen Park
520 Ashe Ave., Raleigh, NC 27606-2150
(919) 831-6468
Children will enjoy riding an antique carousel, as well as other children's rides (boat rides, train rides), playground and fun stuff for kids and families. Tickets are required for rides, and tickets cost $1 each. (Some rides require more than one ticket. The carousel can get expensive particularly since most kids would love to ride it over and over again!)
Directions to Pullen Park: Take I-40 east to the Wade Avenue exit. Take the first I-440 exit (outer beltline). Get off at the second Western Boulevard exit, toward NC State (not Cary) and continue straight. After you cross over Avent Ferry Road, take the second left (sign points to Gov. Morehead school), and the Pullen Park parking lot will be on your left.

If you are an outdoorsy person, Western NC might be a great bet! We have the national forests all over the place, Biltmore Estates, museums, Cherokee and all kinds of things. The coolest IMO is the hikes along rivers and streams where the kids can get in and swim!

oooohhhhhhhhh. i'll have to remember that for next year. i'd worry about it being too hot right now, especially since i'd have to wear the baby.

WNC and the mountains are much cooler than the eastern side, especially raleigh/durham area.

^^Agreed!

I grew up in WNC - near Asheville, actually. And I went to college in Raleigh. HUGE difference! Raleigh is sort of in a divot - so a bowl shape that holds in all of the heat and humidity and makes summer just miserable! The mountains, on the other hand, always have shade and breeze...
