Default Ergo infant insert

I scored an Ergo for a super good price the other week, but it doesn't have the infant insert. Do I really need the insert? What size would baby need to be before I use it without the insert if I do not get one?

I've only read bad things about the insert. I hear using a rolled up blanket works better.
I have an Ergo too, for when he gets bigger. For now, I'm using my Moby wrap which I LOVE.

I see on the website where it says to use it until 4-6 months, but I guess I was just wondering if it absolutely HAS to be used.

Jen is the moby one that you have to tie? For some reason the tying wraps intimidate me! I don't know why. There is a really good co-op about to start on FB for Natibaby carriers and I want to try one so bad, but the tying...I don't know if it would work for me

I do not like the infant inserts. DH has an Ergo that he has used with a tiny twin since they were a few weeks old. We use a rolled-up prefold under baby's bum to make her fit better. We also kept legs froggied in until they were a couple of months old.

Ok cool. So I could just roll up a receiving blanket or something? I will try that! I think I am going to like the Ergo a lot better than the Mei Tai I have. It seems much simpler to use. I just hope it fits around me once this baby belly is gone. Right now I can't get it all the way to snap closed

I hated the infant insert too. We also used a rolled up blanket under the butt and kept the legs froggied

The wrap mostly does just that, wrap and you just tie a knot at the end. There isn't much tying involved. It has been the easiest carrier I've used so far.

I LOVE my Ergo. I never used an insert and used a rolled up receiving blanket. It worked great.

I use a rolled up receiving blanket for Eli. Surprisingly, he didn't like the Moby and cried nonstop when he was in it. But the Ergo with a rolled blanket works great, he loves it.
