Default Possible seizure?

My oldest (autie) is 15. He was standing in the driveway and it's like his body got stiff and he fell. It's like his body short circuited. He said it happened one other time recently. I don't know if it was some kind of seizure or what. He said he tried to brace himself but his body wouldn't work. It's hard to get straight answers and a clear picture from him.

We are going to get him a doc appt but I thought I would ask on here while we wait. We are so remote, I don't even know what we can do here.

yes, it sounds neurological if he couldn't get his body to do what his brain was telling it to do. Its a good thing you are going to get it checked out.

In the meantime, no climbing, bike riding or swimming! Very very important as you never know when it will strike again.

That is what scares me. His bedroom is right at the top of the stairs, too. This is so out of left field. Not even on my radar.

Maybe have him sleep on the couch for now? His Dr will probably refer you to a neurologist and schedule an EEG to check for possible seizure activity. My aspie DD had one last month.

Forgot to ask, is he on any meds?

He is on Zoloft to level out his moods. He won't sleep on the couch. He shot up to over 6' tall and they aren't long enough for him.

Thanks for the info. I have no idea about any of this. We are very remote so a referral means an hour and a half to 3 hour drive depending on where we get sent possibly.

Not sure if it's a seizure, it could also be a stroke or many other things.
Considering there was only two episodes, an EEG might not show anything, though they may run one anyway.
I would request an MRI and/or CT scan, insist on it in fact! I hope it's nothing too serious, but they are able to figure out what's going on.

I guess the couch is out of the question then. The fact that he had the wherewithal to try to brace himself from falling, leads me to believe it wasn't a seizure. Then again, I don't have any experience with seizures.

I just realized that my earlier reply made it seem that my DD had a seizure last month. What I meant was that she had an EEG (and an MRI).

The reason why I asked about meds is because DD was having some issues that her Dr thought were neurological (hence the EEG & MRI), but they turned out to be a serious side effect to one of the meds she was on (Abilify). She had muscle stiffness that prevented her from being able to walk or move normally.

I am having hubby call in the morning. It was too late to call this evening. I will ask about all that stuff when we get the referral. Hopefully it all goes through quickly and we can see someone.

It was so odd. It's like one minute he was standing there and then his whole body stopped moving and he got quiet and the next he was on the ground. It was seconds long and instant. I almost wonder if it's happened more often than he said. He doesn't like to tell us when something is wrong. It's like, in his mind, if we ask him if he has something, we are telling him to have that issue. It's very frustrating. At first I thought he had fainted but it was just very different, not sure how to articulate it.

Yeah, DD is the same way. Once the seed is planted, she has whatever it is we are talking about. I hope you can get him in to see someone quickly and figure out what is going on.

I don't have any experience... but that sounds really scary. I hope you're able to get some answers from his doctor soon.

He is a bit different in that it leads to a meltdown because he doesn't want whatever we are talking about. He had the flu for days before we knew because he hid his symptoms and didn't want to be sick. It wasn't till he couldn't get out of bed that we knew something was wrong.

Hubby called and we have an appt first thing in the AM! She is pretty good about handing out referrals so hopefully we won't have any issue with Tricare or anything and things will go smoothly. Even if he never has another episode, I just want to check things out and make sure. Very thankful for all the suggestions!

I hope it's nothing.

In my experience intricate is pretty good about referrals.

I get to pick our ers because we live far enough from the base clinic, but the times I've needed to see a specialist my main Dr just wrote the referral and it was done.

Last month my youngest had to see a cardiologist about a heart murmur. The pediatricians office called and made the appointment. I saw a bill for the tests they ran because it was not a standard visit and we haven't paid our deductible yet.

Ugh tricare

Keep us posted... I tend to agree that a seizure wouldn't normally allow to brace oneself. I hope you figure it out.
