Default Sewing machine?

I have recently decided to purchase my very first sewing machine, and I'm ridiculously excited, but totally clueless Any suggestions? I am going to start by sewing a skeleton costume for Oliver for Halloween (pretty simple costume), but I'd like to eventually be able to sew dresses, aprons, and much more. I was wondering about the Janome DC 2014 or 2015?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't have experience with Janome, but I think I've heard good things. Have you looked up reviews on them? I only have experience with Bernina (excellent machines but very pricey) and Singer (decent machines, quite a bit cheaper).

Yes, the reviews are great! The Janomes I'm looking at are pricey ($500ish). I see a Bernina Bernette Chicago 7 on Amazon. Only has 4 reviews though lol.

I've heard they're great, as well. It mostly matters if you learn how to use it, though. The machines are only as good as the user.

I have a husqvarna Viking Emerald that I liked, as well as a pfaff, all good machines.

I have a Huquvarna Viking Rose and LOVE IT. I just inherited my Gigi's Singer supreme quilter and that's a really nice sew too. The few cheaper brother and singers I've had aren't worth the price.

I have a baby lock, too, which I also really like but they're expensive and I don't think most people need all those features.

have you found any good tutorial sites? I know how to sew in general/can use a machine, but I want to learn how to follow a clothing pattern.

My friend taught me and admittedly I ignore most of what the pattern says to do.

I also never stop for directions or read the instruction manual.

I am actually a man in disguise

I have a Babylock too and I adore it. I also have an older Singer that is amazing and my Mom gave my kids her Brother when she moved. It was a cheap one from Walmart and it's pretty decent.
I wouldn't spend a ton yet, I'd spend it on quality fabric instead.
YouTube is great for how to videos, I've found some neat ones. The sewing machine companies usually have videos specific to using their sewing machines and the various stitches and accessories that come with.
