Default In an attempt to actually post something... BABY SHOWERS

Oh hi...

So, I know shower etiquette is a hot button for a lot of people, but I'd like thoughts.

One of my co-workers wants to throw me one.

My son is 14, so it isn't like I've held on to anything baby, although my cloth diaper collection is complete (thanks, all).

So... since I've been out of the game for a while, toss out your DO and DO NOT lists for showers, as well as how to navigate the online/residential registry and invites.

Do we mail, email, singing telegram?

Also, where to have it?

It's been a long time, and if you'd like to have one, I say go for it. Have it where you're confortable, although I'd probably keep it pretty low-key.

I don't have registry advice, other than you should register at a place where if you got gift cards, they would be useful for you in the future.

Is you LO here? Or when are you due?

(PS - I do not want more kids, so I want everyone else who is having them to show me pictures of the babies/nurseries/cloth diapers/clothing so I can squee along and not actually have to have a baby. Ha ha)

Yay! That's so exciting.

I'm so thrilled for everyone around here who's having babies. It's always nice to see new babies!

My sister through me a small "sprinkle" once instead of a shower. It was sweet. Same idea but I didn't need anything really.

I love baby showers. I say have one for every child But that's just me.

I've gone to baby showers where my invitation has been via Facebook Events, but there's something extra sweet (IMO) about an actual mailed invitation.

We have showers for all babies in our parish. We celebrate every birth.

We send emails out since we have so many showers. Recently their has been a theme and that's been fun to work with.

Where would you like to have it? I guess that depends on finances and amount of work your
co-worker wants to do.

I know that Amazon baby registry sends you a coupon to use towards what you weren't gifted.

You definitely should have a shower!!! Etiquette speaking, it's "acceptable" to have a shower when it's such a large age gap, though personally baby showers for every baby don't bother me. I just attended one on Sunday for a close friend for baby #5.

I perfer mail invites, but facebook events don't bother me either. I wouldn't do an email invite or phone. I think it would be up to your co-worker throwing the shower to figure out location. And it wouldn't hurt to register.

I think it's totally appropriate to accept one in your situation. I feel like it only becomes weird when people expect someone to throw them one, or expect it to go a certain way. Some people's feelings on showers approaches entitlement. I've seen pole complaining because they didn't get enough presents, or attention, or whatever. Just icky. don't get that vibe here. 14 years is a HUGE gap! Your newest baby boy absolutely should be celebrated and welcomed into the world.

I ended up having one for each of my girls. The first was a surprise and I didn't expect it at all since I was an unwed, single, teen mother. The second was also a surprise, thrown by a different group of friends, and was five years after my first. This last was first non-surprise shower. It had been 8 years since my last baby and this was (yet again) an entirely new friend group. I felt really, really uncomfortable with the whole thing, but it was really important to my friends so I let them go ahead with it. It turned out pretty nice.

I think it's wonderful that your friend cares enough to want to throw you a shower. I hope that you all have a great time. You deserve it! As far as what's "appropriate" for invites and such, I'm not sure. We had a small group (no family or anything) so my friends just did informal Facebook invites. I think it just depends on your particular situation. Snail-mailed invites are still very appropriate for many occasions. I think registries are standard. I caught a lot of lecturing for not registering with mine. I eventually threw together an Amazon registry but it was super, super late and only the person who had prodded me into creating one bought anything off it.

Awesome! Thanks ladies... I appreciate the thoughts. Hopefully it will work out without any hiccups... I hate drama.
