Default I'm the only one who posts in here anyway

But I have to share my excitement!
We are growing rapidly now that we are settled in and the weather is warming up!
We have a decent sized garden where we just planted sweet corn, carrots, peas, snow peas, a rainbow assortment of beets, kohlrabi, yellow onion and sweet onion. We also have 6 blueberry bushes, 2 raspberry bushes and 2 blackberry. I have seed potatoes waiting to go in the ground and rhubarb. We have asparagus, chives and strawberries growing in one of the gardens already. I planted purple asparagus in with the green and I am letting the green go to seed because it is a spotty crop.
We will be adding tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelon, pumpkin and a couple varieties of squash.
Two of my goats are bred and due the end of August. We will have 3 goats in milk then, though I will probably dry off the doe that is currently in milk after the others kid.
I have two cows due in July and I will be breeding two more in July for spring calves next year. The two that I will be breeding are the milk cows, so we will have fresh cow's milk again next year.
I bred on of the female rabbits today to. The buck seemed a little confused, so I will probably put them together again tomorrow. It won't take long to know if it took, rabbits have a really short gestation. We are excited for kits!
We have had really full days working on fencing, barn cleaning, gardening, brush clearing, etc. We are getting there and next year will be much easier.
Thanks for reading! If anyone is still in to homesteading here, feel free to share what you have been working on

You've been busy!

We have 10 week old chicks in a brooder right now. I'm only planning on keeping 5. I'll give away/sell what I'm not keeping. My garden isn't anything to brag about. I have 8 tomato plants, 8 peppers (different varieties), squash, watermelon (never been successful with them), cucumbers, basil, and cilantro that volunteers every year. I also have a small strawberry bed that the slugs have been enjoying.

I need to finish the coop in the next couple of weeks. I just need to build a door, and put the wire mesh on the coop.

I'm so jealous! My dream is to have some land and start a garden, have a cow. We are in a tiny basement apartment right now, with no personal outdoor space. So not even some window plants. But I have a planter by the door with some shade flowers, and a little bed by one of our window wells with a basil plant and some flowers. It SNOWED here yesterday (ugh) so i am waiting a bit more to get everything in the ground. Good for you for getting so much done, enjoying the spring weather!

Our garden is coming along nicely. We need to put up trellises for the peas, cucumbers, and berries, support for tomatoes, etc.

Our strawberries are also getting thrashed by slugs, but I put down some ash yesterday, so that will hopefully help.

Lettuce, corn, carrots, peas, tomatoes, peppers, melons, cucumbers, sunchokes, sorrel, and purslane are all planted and doing well. Comfrey, mint, and berries continue to take over the world.

Still working on rabbit infrastructure. Chickens are producing more eggs that we can use, even with 5 of the 18 hens being broody. We need to put down an older hen, probably this week.

We all love to see the busy bees working in the garden alongside us!

We have meat birds ready to butcher next week too. I forgot about them. I also ordered a "Hatchery Surprise" assortment due to ship the end of June. It could be anything they sell in there. It will be interesting to see what we will get! We will keep a dozen of so and burner the rest.
~~~~~~~
Everyone's gardens sound fantastic! We will be adding herbs next year.
Awesome!!
We aren't allowed to have animals where I am, but my husband made me a space for an amazing garden last year, and I have it half planted already this year (it's still cold here. We just had 3 frosts this week. Grrrrr.
In the ground
Beets, carrots, Swiss chard, kale, radishes, turnips, leeks, kale, 3 varieties of onions, parsley, green beans (bush and pole) , spinach, lettuce, snap peas, strawberries, 2 varieties of potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, red cabbage.
I have started inside
Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, ground cherries, pumpkin, corn , sweet potatoes, lots of flowers.
I have blueberries, more strawberries and raspberry elsewhere in the yard and dh is making me another garden space on the side of our house so I can expand. Our crop last year was amazing.
I am still around!
I am super jelly about the garden, cause mine is NOT in the ground yet and I'm wondering if I should even bother. Maybe some squash and watermelons yet, but not nearly what I wanted to plant. The garden got tilled, and then life got busy. DH is almost done with school, so that will help. We do have planters with tomatoes (5 or 6)... two were found in the compost pile and are doing great! I also have 2 planters of bell peppers. That's it. Bah!
We have six 7-8 weeks old pullets that we *just* moved out to the tractor. DH, DS 21 ans DS's BFF spent a good 2 weeks (off and on) building a big chicken coop where they will all eventually live. We moved our 4 laying hens in there and then put the babies in the tractor. It's a nice, big, coop. Any advice on integration is appreciated. Honestly, when we bought the 6 (3 cuckoo Marans and 3 EE), they were hatchlings and we figured we'd lose a couple... nope, all 6 are doing great! So, yeah, we now have 10 chickens.
City allows only 4, so hope they all behave.... Our big girls have started singing the egg song, so they aren't exactly quiet. None of this would matter except that we have an across the street neighbor who loves to call the city on us. I got fed up, turned the tables and called on him this time (he was illegally piling his yard waste right up to our camper because he was hoping the city would make us move it... he hates that we park it there)... like seriously, it's sort of across the street from his back yard. WHY does he care?! :shaking:
Oh, one of the babies looks roo-ish to me, though they were supposed to be all females. She carries her tail more upright than the others but her saddle feathers look rounded to me, so who knows? I guess we will see.
Awesome! We have garden years like that sometimes.
For the chickens, start by putting them in sight of each other, then put them where they can kind of reach each other, but have a fence between them and go from there. Take t slow and it would be helpful if they were close to the same size.
I think that I'm going to be lucky to get anything planted in our garden this year. Bliss has been keeping us on our toes health-wise, and house and car repairs have been non-stop, and there just hasn't been any time to get out there.
