I don't consider what we have to be "backyard" chickens. They roost in a section of the barn, and they totally free-range. We don't even lock them in at night. They have 5 acres to forage (minus the garden).

I think we have 24 right now: 17 hens, 6 chicks, 1 rooster. I should have more chicks soon, since one of my hens is brooding in the woods somewhere.

We just went on vacation, so we were eating out. My kids are always sad when they order eggs. As soon as they see the color of mass production eggs, they don't want to eat them.

I can't imagine living somewhere that people could tell me how many chickens I can or cannot have.
